With an original story-line, Todd Phillips’s “Joker” is shattering box offices in its opening weekend. However, Joaquin Phoenix, who plays the film’s namesake, admits that he did not know they were filming a movie until the premiere. “You’d think the press tours would have given it away, or maybe the red carpet would clue me in. Even knowing it by the opening scene would have been okay. But I’m talking well into the 45 minute mark is around when I thought to myself, ‘Oh, they were filming me. This is a movie.’ It’s good though. I’m totally deserving of all the praise I’m getting. Definitely go see it.” At press time, Phoenix was seen walking the streets of L.A. asking people why they were so serious, despite never having seen any of the other movies in the franchise.
