WASHINGTON —

After receiving the Articles of Impeachment from the House, Republican leaders are meeting to debate how long to wait to acquit the President so that it looks like they have thought carefully about their decision.

“We must be mindful to not give our Democratic counterparts any reason to accuse us of ignoring the President’s blatant Constitutional violations. If we acquit too fast, they’ll say that we’re crooks. If we take one second too long, the President will tell our Evangelical base that we are allowing Islamic Terrorists to defeat us,” Mitch McConnell cautioned his side of the aisle. “We must be mindful to tread ever-so-lightly over the Constitution.”
