In a statement on their website, the World Health Organization has added some clarifications to their guidelines for proper sanitation and hygiene during this pandemic.
As you continue to wash your hands WITH SOAP, and make every effort to avoid touching your face and licking your fingers, please be advised that any food item you drop on the floor is still safe to be consumed within 5 seconds. We know that the population is growing concerned over COVID-19, but we don’t want to let good food go to waste just because it fell on your filthy, disease-ridden floor.
A spokesperson for WHO expressed concern over this official stance as, “It always seems like food falls sticky-side down. Toast? That butter is hitting the ground first. And if there’s a hair stuck to it and you eat it, well then maybe this virus will help thin the herd a bit.” The spokesperson has since been fired.
